fiona, small business? this is albania, every business is small in albania. the government is selling out licenses to the bigger industrial complexes like mining and oil drilling - that is why albanians have no work! you wont save albania if everybody owned a internet cafe or sold chineese clothes or repacked produce from other countries.. have to take advantage of the natural resources other than renting them out. look at what an apartment cost today in tirana, there is many apartments for sale and that is called to much supply for little demand.. before albania was poorest in europe, now with the debt there wont be a sunrise of glory in many years to come because albanian cant afford more taxes than 10%

Its necessary that Bank of Albania have to be more sensitive about the credit level on economy. I think that actual credit crisis will evoke more unemployed. Governor Fullani must lead banking sector not to be only a honorable watcher of what is happening.

I believe it is still difficult to gauge the true level of unemployment in Albania for the moment. True, the global crisis has affected Albania, and some jobs have gone and some small businesses have disappeared. However, the job section of the Celesi paper is still running across about 9 x A3 pages, with jobs in Sales, Marketing, Accounting, Travel Agency, Call Centres, Hairdressing and Bars and Restaurants.
And with the busiest tourism season ever in Albania this year, job losses in this area seem to be minimal.
Still the government could do more to encourage employment with "traineeship programs" and more support for small business.
