Kosovo Garners Highway Funds

Pristina | 28 July 2009 | Kosovo’s government has acquired the appropriate funds to begin construction of the country’s national highway, which is scheduled to begin this autumn.

“The acquisition of funds to initiate work on the Morine-Prizren-Pristina-Merdar highway is an extraordinarily important decision, which will [promote] the secure economic development of Kosovo and the modernisation of the country,” Prime Minister Hashim Thaci said.

The highway will begin in the southern town of Morine and end in the north-eastern town of Vermice, which borders Serbia. The Morine-Durres highway which connected Kosovo and Albania was completed in June 2008.

Funds totalling 50 million euros have been set aside for the construction of the highway. Thaci guaranteed full transparency and the adherence to legal strictures in the road’s construction.
