Bulgaria Fines For Snow Clean-Up

Sofia city hall inspectors have issued more than 1,400 fines of 20 leva each to people who failed to clean up the snow around entrances to their buildings, local media reported.

The city hall said that the amount of snow that fell on the weekend of January 3-4 did not oblige the authorities to clean small alleys and side streets in neighbourhood, where the parked cars made it difficult and sometimes impossible for snow cleaning machines to enter.
In addition, the concessionaires taking care of Sofia’s streets were not obliged to clean small streets and alleys, but only major boulevards.

People are obliged to clean the area around entrances to their buildings, the city hall told Darik radio, noting that those who failed to pay their fines could be penalised with a further fine of up to 500 leva.
