Eagle Mobile Signs 200,000 Customers

Tirana, Dec. 19, 2008 (AENews) -  The third mobile operator in Albania Eagle Mobile, celebrated the  signing of its 200,000 customer, only eight months after first appeared in the market, the company announced on Tuesday. Eagle Mobile has now 10 percent of the mobile market in Albania.

In March 2008, Eagle Mobile first offered its services only for the Tirana and Durres area, and in June the expanded in the rest of the country.

It pursued an aggressive cutting price strategy, competing successfully with two other Mobile phone providers, AMC and Vodafone.

The Calik Group won the privatization tender for Albanian Albtelekom and paid 120 million euro for the acquisition of Albtelekom and Eagle Mobile Company, according to the World Bulletin online news service. Calik Group made a 26-million-euro investment for the operations of Eagle Mobile Company.

The Albanian market was characterized by record high mobile telephone service prices until September, when prices were decreased for the first time.
