Six Companies Compete for Skavica Hydro Power Plant

hidrocentralTirana, Dec. 18, 2008 (AENews) – Six companies have filed bids for a concessionary agreement to build and operate the Skavica hydro power plant, which is considered the most important project in hydro energy in Albania, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Energy, said Thursday in a press release.
TGK Skavica Srl from Italy, Korea Electric Power Corporation, STATKRAFT from Norway, VERBUND and KELAG GRUP from Austria and “R.W.E” AG from Germany, expressed their interest on the project.

The winer is expected to be announced on January 5, 2009.

Skavica was projected first back in ’80′ with an installed capacity of 250 MW and a yearly production of 1.3 TW.
Back on 2004, Government of Albania signed a concessionary agreement to build Skavica plant with a group of Italian companies. TGK Skavica Srl, changed the design of the hydro power plant and proposed a new design that will increase the installed capacity to 500 MW. Total investment is expected to Euro 600 million.
