Albania opens bid for key hydro power plant

Tirana, Dec. 16, 2008 (AENews) – Albanian Ministry of Economy, opened a bid for Skavica Hydro Power Plant on upper edge of Drini river, considered the most important energetic project in the country.
“Interested companies can submit their projects till December 17. The Skavica Hydro Power Plant is on offer under Build-Own-Transfer concessionary term”, – the ministry said.
Skavica was projected first back in ’80′ with an installed capacity of 250 MW and a yearly production of 1.3 TW.
Back on 2004, Government of Albania signed a concessionary agreement to build Skavica plant with a group of Italian companies. TGK Skavica Srl, changed the design of the hydro power plant and proposed a new design that will increase the installed capacity to 500 MW. Total investment is expected to Euro 600 million.
Previously, Ministry of Economy, had declared that he intended to conclude negotiations with TGK Skavica Srl, the original Italian consortium, but by law, the concession should be signed after a formal bid.
