Lawmaker’s hunger strike in the second day

Tirana, Nov. 12, 2008 – Nine lawmakers from Albania’s smaller parliamentary parties are today in the second day of they hunger strike, while several hundreds from their supporters, protested outside of the parliament house.
Two lawmakers that went for few moments out to speak with journalists, were not allowed to turn back by Republican Guard forces. According to Dritan Prifti, one of the lawmakers, the parliament house is currently without watter and heat, and that make the strike harder. From inside the parliament house, former Prime Minister Ilir Meta said that he is determined to continue with the strike.
Strikers that represent two parliamentarian small parties, one from the right wing and one from the left wing, are protesting for what they call “an attempt from two main parties to oust them from political life through manipulated elections. An early agreement between ruling Democratic Party and Socialist Party from opposition, want to push under they own control the General Elections Commission. Unrepresented parties think that they votes will not be counted by the representatives of the two biggest parties.
