Top Albanian politicians hails Obama’s victory

Tirana, Nov. 5, 2008 (AENews) – Albanian Prime Minister Sali Berisha and the head of the Opposition Edi Rama, hailed today the election of Barack Obama as the 44th President of the United States. “His victory shows that in the United States, the possibility of becoming President is not determined by the color of  your skin, origin or ethnicity”, Mr. Berisha said.

“Mr. Obama’s victory will bring change in Balkans as well. This was a victory against fears”, – Edi Rama, head of Socialist Party of Albania, said in an interview for local television News 24.

Strange behavior among Albanians accompanied the last days of the US presidential elections. Some televisions and newspapers as well as some political activists mainly linked with the left-wing opposition, strongly “supported” Mr. Obama. Some others, “supported” the republican candidate who lost.

The Albanian opposition is thinking of using  “change” as a possible slogan  for their own electoral campaign next year.
