Minister of Finance promises higher wages for public servants

Tirana, Nov. 5, 2008 (AENews) – Minister of Finance Mr. Ridvan Bode, promised on Wednesday higher wages for public servants and higher pensions for retired workers for the next year. We intend to rise salaries and pensions from 1 May 2009”, – Bode said in parliament, while was presenting the state budged for the next year.

Usually, government have risen salaries and pensions from 1 July. Opposition activists blamed government for the change, saying that rising salaries early is designed to earn more votes in the general elections scheduled for the next summer.

State budged 2009 have projected 4.2% of GDP deficit, much higher that IMF advise. IMF representatives advised Government of Albania to keep state deficit at 3.5% of GDP. Albania – IMF agreement end on 1 January 2009, and Government of Albania do not see further obligations.
