Government owns important stakes in Mobile Operator AMC, telecommunication giant Albtelecom, Power Distribution Utility OSSH and other, stakes that range from 12.5% to 24%. A new law approved last year, improved legal protection for that. Prime Minister Sali Berisha declared that wants to sell all minority stakes, because of his belief on open market economy. Opposition exponents, reacted by declaring that government want to cash as much as possible from selling public properties, before general elections scheduled for the summer of 2009.
