Rinas International Airport closed, due to ammunition explosion

Tirana, Tirana, 15 March 2008 – AENews – 16.25 Tirana International Airport suspended all flights due to major explosion in the village of Gërdec near Vora, 16 Km west of Tirana. The explosion caused damages in airport terminal while the danger of a further explosion.

A second report  said the airport was reopened some minutes later.
According to Albanian authorities, in the area is located another ammunition depot, containing military ammunitions for dismantling. A news reporting the existence of rockets was denied as true by Prime Minister spoke woman Juela Meçani.
