Bamir Topi elected Albania’s new President

(AENews) Deputy Chairman of Democratic Party Bamir Topi, was elected today as Albania’s new
President. Mr. Topi received 85 votes out of 90 by an agreement between the
ruling coalition and six PM’s from the opposition Socialist Party. Inaugural
ceremony will be held on Monday, 24 July.
Born in Tirana on 24
April 1957, Mr. Topi, graduated with a biology degree from the University of Tirana. He holds the titles of Professor
Doctor, highest academic titles in the country.
He begun his active
political career in 1996 as the minister of Agriculture in a short lived
government. His official CV published on Albanian parliament website (www.parlament.al)
does not provide any useful data.
