Minister of Finance warns about negative effects of early elections
Tirana, July 10, 2007 (AENews) – Minister of Finance, Ridvan Bode,
warned today, at a press conference, about the strong negative effect that
early elections might have on the economy. “We are experiencing a difficult
electricity situation”, Bode noted after presenting the a review of the new
stability agreement with IMF.
The country should elect its new president till the 24th of July; otherwise
it will have to go into early elections in September. Last week, government and
opposition negotiations failed on finding a consensual presidential candidate,
thus pushing all political parties to start preparing for early elections.
There is still a small possibility that the parties turn back to the
negotiations table, however, as the European Commission continues to exert
pressure upon the government and the opposition to avoid early elections.
