Two foreign companies interested in Bushati hydropower plant

Tirana, July 4, 2007 (AENews) – Today
the office of the Prime Minister reported about the intention of what it called
“two major companies, Vatech Hydro and Pöyren Energy,” to build a 30 MW
hydropower plant at Bushati zone, in the north of Albania.

The project will
cost about EUR 44 million and the plant will be operative within 18 months, according
to the release.

The Bushati hydropower plant is an
old project. Its plans for the plant were first drawn up during the communist years,
but were never implemented because its construction would affect the whole Lake
of Shkodra decreasing its flow and changing the whole flow cycle of the region.

Vatech Hydro is an Austrian company producing
equipments for hydropower plants. There are no data on the web about the other company
Pöyren Energy.
