Prime Minister Berisha presents new cabinet of ministers

Tirana, 13 March 2007 (AENews) – Last night Albanian Prime Minister, Sali Berisha, announced the new members for his cabinet of ministers. The new members will have to be decreed by the Albanian President, Alfred Moisiu, and then they will have to be ratified by the Albanian Parliament.

Berisha praised all his outgoing ministers for their contribution and good work, and then spoke about the commitment of his cabinet to the development of the country and commented the selection of the new members after long considerations with his allies.

“This new cabinet was chosen after long consultations”, Mr. Berisha said, commenting on the names of the new ministers. Meanwhile, the opposition has expressed dissatisfaction, as it considers the reshuffle as another move by Mr. Berisha to maintain his position as PM, despite a deep loss during the last local elections which reflected the dissatisfaction of the people with the current government which he leads, according to the opposition members.

The new cabinet members are:

Ilir Rusmajli, who will be replacing the incumbent Aldo Bumci as Minister of Justice. Meanwhile, Mr. Rusmali will be leaving his current position as Deputy Prime Minister.

Majlinda Bregu, will be the new Minister of Integration and Spokesperson for the Council of Ministers, replacing the incumbent Minister Arenca Trashani. She will be able to carry out both of these responsibilities as she has all the necessary qualities and qualifications, according to Prime Minister Berisha.

Yll Pango, will be the new Minister of Culture and Tourism, a position held by the outgoing Bujar Leskaj.

Gazmend Oketa, will be the new Deputy Prime Minister, taking over the position of Ilir Rusmajli.

Nard Ndoka, head of the Christian-Democratic Party, will be the new Minister of Health.

Bujar Nishani, will be the new Minister of Interior, a position held till recently by Sokol Olldashi, who  resigned his position to run for Mayor of Tirana in these last local elections.

Meanwhile, some of the media have commented on the fact that Albanian President, Alfred Moisiu, has commented against Rusmajli’s nomination as Minister of Justice. Moisiu’s opposition has reportedly come following a number of conflicts with Mr. Rusmajli and a number of allegations made by the latter against the head of state.
