Government under pressure from Greeks and Turks

Albanian government is under heavy pressure both from Greeks and Turks for the
privatization of Albtelecom, the fixed lines telecommunication company, ABC
daily reported recently.

Four Albanian insurance companies on sale

Tirana, 19 March 2007 (AENews) – Four
insurance companies in Albania could change ownership in the upcoming months,
according to different sources. In February, 51% of the medium-sized company
InterAlbanian was sold to Aspis Group of Greece, for EUR 2.1mn. 

No guaranties for regular electricity supplies

Tirana,
15 March 2007 (AENews) – KESH's new director, Gjergj Bojaxhi, said in his
official presentation that he could not guarantee regular supply of electricity
during this year, but that it would depend on the metrological conditions
rather than his decision-making.

Privatization of Albtelecom, new deadline for Calik Enerji

deadline set by the Albanian government for the Turkish company, Calik Enerji,
to fulfill all regulative requirements in regard to the privatization of
Albtelecom.

Government approves 17 concessionary small power plants

Tirana, 15 March  2007 (AENews) – Albanian government has opened the way for the
construction of 17 new small hydro-power plants ranging in power from 2 to 10
Megawatt. 

World Bank disproves government of Albania

14 March 2007 – (AENews) – World Bank Office in Tirana said that the Albanian government
had published an incorrect news where WB had supposedly granted its support to a
foreign company interested in investing on the coastline of Albania.

Albtelecom’s privatization postponed

Tirana,
14 March 2007 (AENews) – Turkish prime minister, ErdoÄŸan  Recep Tayyip, postponed his two day visit to
Tirana due to health problems, while the Albanian minister of Economy, Genc
Ruli, announced there was a lack of progress in privatization of Albtelecom, Albania’s
fixed line telecommunication corporation.

Prime Minister Berisha presents new cabinet of ministers

Tirana, 13 March 2007 (AENews) – Last night Albanian Prime Minister, Sali Berisha, announced the new members for his cabinet of ministers. The new members will have to be decreed by the Albanian President, Alfred Moisiu, and then they will have to be ratified by the Albanian Parliament.

Albanians call for boycott of Greek products in the country

Tirana, 12 March 12, 2007 (AENews) – Many
young Albanians have been discussing in different internet sites about the call
to suspend consumption of Greek products in the country as a response for the
Greek army video, which showed Greek soldier's singing an offensive song
against Albanians.

Opposition abandons electoral procedures in Shijak

(AENews) – Opposition representative in the electoral process, held Sunday,
abandoned counting procedures and declared the process failed. The opposition
candidate, Igli Cela, withdrew from the race.
