Successful test for new airport terminal

Tirana, 28 Feb 07 (AENews) – A month before the dead line,
Tirana Airport Partners had tested successfully the new passenger terminal in
the sole international airport in the country.


“Our aim was to be ensure that all systems would work well
before the official inauguration scheduled for March 21”, official sources from
TAP told journalists. Over 300 people participated in the test.

“The entire system worked perfectly”, Rolf Castro-Vasquez,
operational director of TAP said.

During 2006, Tirana
International Airport
registered a strong growth. About 906k passengers and 7,925 trips were
registered, according to official sources.

TAP has the exclusively to operate all international flights
in Albania,
according to a 20 year build-own-transfer-agreement with the government of Albania.
Total investment cost are reported at EUR 50.3mn, which includes construction
of the new terminal, technical modernization and further enlargement of the runway.

The consortium is lead by Hochtief Airport GmbH, while EBRD is the main
financier.

The new terminal is projected to sustain a larger capacity
of 3 million passengers per year in medium-term.
