In Albania, up till now, no one, including the government has ever paid for the use of software on their computers. Albania is the second Balkan country, after Macedonia, to sign such an agreement with Microsoft. Panorama daily.
A small rightwing party presented a false candidacy for the local elections in Tirana, noted today Shekulli daily. Akile Rama, 73, was presented as a candidate for major of Tirana, appointed by the National Democratic Front, however the media found out that he was ill and unaware of his candidacy.
Opposition denounced this as an attempt to manipulate the local elections. The forfeit candidacy introduced by the rightwing is view as an attempt to create problems for the leftwing supporters, because many of them could give their vote for Mr. Akile Rama, instead of Edi Rama, the current major running for his third mandate in Tirana. Two former public administration officials who had worked at the Vlora Property Registration office (south of Albania) were arrested Tuesday for alleged corruption and other legal irregularities regarding different ownership titles granted to the third parties during their service in office.
