Ministry of Finance experts are trying to resist KESH’s demand for a loan, unidentified sources told ABC daily. “We are under political pressure to issue Lek 2 billion (USD 20 million) loan to finance KESH’s cash flow needs, but we do not have the legal tools to do that”, the source said.


KESH needs funds to cover its very expensive electricity bills from imports. The government would like to have a regular electricity supply for domestic customers, especially before the local elections which are scheduled for 18 February. ABC Daily

European Council Monitoring Report, issued Thursday, is the main news in the front pages of many Albanian newspapers this morning. The report expresses concern about what it deems unmet requirements by the Albanian government according to the terms of the Stabilization and Association Agreement with European Union, ratified last December. Electoral reform, Property Restitution and Compensation, independence of courts and the increasing non legal conduct by the new government are the main issues noted by the report. Shekulli, Panorama
