Albania to begin construction of first important Thermal Power plant

Tirana, 26 Jan. 2007 (AENews) – KESH announced today that construction of the first major thermal plant in Albania was in February of this year. This will be Albania’s first important energy generation plant since 1986.

"We have signed today the final contract for the construction of Thermal Power Plant in Vlora where and the works will begin early in February", Mr. Muharrem Stojku, director for production management told to the journalists today.

The new thermal power plant will be build near Vlora, in the south coast, with an installed capacity of 100 MW. Estimated cost is EUR 90 million while energy production should start in early 2008, according to KESH.

The last Power Plant build in Albania was inaugurated in 1986 near the Koman hydropower plant in the north of the country. The electricity produced in Vlora is expected to run an average costs of 4 eurocents for kWh. The new Thermo Power Plant will work with diesel engines.
