Fuel tanks on fire, tragedy avoided in Shengjin

Tirana, 18 Dec. 2006 (AENews) – A fuel tank exploded yesterday morning in the port town of Shengjin and two others were set on fire probably because of an intentional TNT explosion the media reported.

Over one hundred fire-fighters tried to prevent the fire from reaching the two remaining tanks only with the help of water and at least six of them were injured, mostly intoxicated.

Each of the five fuel tanks contained from 300 to 2,000 litres of fuel. The situation was closely monitored by the highest officials of the Ministry of Interior, including Minister Sokol Olldashi. The owner of the fuel tanks – the Taci Oil Company – calculates the damage at several million Euro.

The tanks are currently rented by the country's largest oil importing company Taci Oil. It's owner, Rezart Taci, blamed the tragedy on his competitors' who had supposedly placed TNT explosives near the tanks.

According to official data Taci Oil's annual turnover for 2005 is estimated at USD 63 million, followed by Kastrati company with USD 50 million and Rira & Rajca with USD 42 million.
