IMF, careful with big commercial loans for Durres-Kukes road project
Tirana, (AEnews) Oct. 26 – The International Monetary Fund (IMF) reminded the Albanian Government yesterday to be careful when taking loans for construction of the Durres-Kukes road project.
According to Head of the IMF Mission for Albania Istvan Szekely, a loan is not the only way for constructing the road. Szekely, who will be for two weeks in the country to discuss the agreement between the IMF and the government, said that it was the right and the obligation of the government to decide on the way the funds allocated for this purpose will be spent.
The government has just signed a 418-million-Euro contract with American-Turkish consortium Bechtel-Enka for construction of Rreshen-Kalimash segment as part of the Durres-Kukes road. However, the government has not declared yet how it will secure the funds for this purpose.
