Albania greets Montenegro’s Independence
Tirana, May 25 (AENews) – Albanian Prime Minister, Sali Berisha greeted recently the Independence of Montenegro, by saying that now the cooperation between our two countries would be strengthened even further.
During a visit to the northern region of Shkodra, Prime Minister Berisha declared that the region would now experience a faster development thanks to the decrease in inter-border tensions. “Montenegro’s Independence opened a wide door for cooperation with this country, as will happen will the independence of Kosova,” Berisha said.
Through another declaration, the office of the Prime Minister published a public message directed to the government and people of Montenegro: “This decision, together with the final status of Kosova, its independence, will be recorded in the annals of the Balkan’s history full of wars, conflicts, separations, unjust punishments, artificial federation and will finally open the door to the Balkan’s of peace, stability, prosperity and integration thus creating a peninsula of free nations, with minorities of free citizens, and of countries working in friendship, understanding toward their common Euro-Atlantic future” the announcement said.
Albania – Montenegro relations started to improve greatly after 1999, when Potgorica and Tirana officials decided to remove the visa system for the citizens of both countries.
Since then, two new border points were opened for both sides. A new trade agreement was signed with the Serbia-Montenegro Federation, with a special annex for the new Balkan republic. During these last years, a great many Albanians have preferred to spend their holidays on the Montenegrin shores, influenced mainly by the low prices. Meanwhile, inter-border trade is continuing to develop.
