AMC to invest another EUR 40 million in 2006

In addition, Oktapodas rejected claims on the part of state
authorities over providing much higher mobile service rates as well as exerting
monopoly powers in the market, based on the argument that it competes with the
other private mobile operator Vodafone Albania.
The 2006 investment will consist in further network
extension, service quality improvement and introduction of new services for its
subscribers, according to Oktapodas.
He also confirmed that AMC would continue maintaining a
downward trend of its tariffs during 2006.
FY 2005 results for AMC recorded a total EUR138 million in
revenue netting a EUR41.5 millions in profit or 14% y-o-y.
AMC and Vodafone Albania
have almost equal shares of the 1.5 million mobile subscribers in Albania.
AMC subscriber numbers saw a sharp growth for 143,000 to
781,000 at the end of 2005 followed by 748,000 subscribers for Vodafone Albania.
According to different published reports and studies
Albanian mobile telephony tariffs are seven times higher then the respective
tariffs for the UK, Greece and Italy, twice as high than those applied in
Kosova, three times higher than those for Macedonia and about for times higher
those of other Eastern European
countries.
