Albanian government near anti-monopoly measures for both mobile operators
Uncategorized Tuesday, March 7th, 2006Tirana, March 7 (AENews) – Albanian authorities are close to commence with supervision of mobile telephony service tariffs, under allegations of abuses with their market dominating position for both mobile operators.
“We have declared the existing operators, AMC and Vodafone Albania, as Strong Market Power Subjects (SMPS) and have asked for the assistance of the German consulting company “EIK-Consult” GmBH in Germany” declared Hydajet Kopani, chairman of the Albanian Telecommunications Regulatory Entity (TRE), in Tirana.
“We will submit to the Council of Ministers the ‘Regulation of tariffs methodology’ for the operators declared SMPS. We have chosen the German consulting company EIK Consult GmBH, whom will assist TRE, amongst others, with the preparation of the ‘Regulation of tariffs methodology for Telecommunication Public Operators declared as SMPS,” Kopani declared.

At the end of 2005 total number of mobile subscribers reached about 1.6 million. Revenue for both mobile operators, AMC Albania and Vodafone Albania, reached about EUR 300 million.
