Albanian Mobile Communications fined with USD 1.61 million by Competition Authority

Tirana, Dec. 13 (AENews) – Albanian Competition Authority imposed today a fine of 1% over the yearly turn-over (for 2004) for the Albanian Mobile Communications (AMC) company for not having submitted the financial reports required under the current antitrust investigation being conducted by the Competition Authority. This fine amounts to ALL 168 million (USD 1.61 million; EUR 1.35 million).

The Competition Secretary argued showing proofs that AMC, "despite being under investigation regarding a possible market dominating position as per decision made public by the Competition Authority, which in turn has never received an answer to all the requests made toward AMC, in conformity to law no. 9121 “For Protection of the Competition”, to submit the required information to the Competition Authority,” the Authority notified.

The Competition Authority had started an investigation into the mobile market two months prior to this latest decision.
