Albania, Government submits 2006 budget draft

Tirana, Dec. 3 (AENews) – Ministry of Finances submitted to Parliament the budget draft for 2006, meanwhile the opposition accused the government of trying to evade its discussion by getting it passed quickly.

According to this budget draft, revenue for 2006 is estimated at ALL 221.4 billion (EUR 1.8 bn, USD 2.18 bn), meanwhile expenses are expected to reach ALL 256 billion (EUR 2 bn, USD 2.4).

Revenue for 2006 is estimated to grow by 7.1% in nominal terms compared to the budget of 2005. Meanwhile, expenses are expected to grow by 3.4%, according to the draft.

In drafting this new budget the new government seems to have reduced considerably the GBP, an indicator which has always been questioned in the past due to political interferences in the process of the Gross National Product (GNP) evaluation.

According to the budget draft, the GBP is expected to reach ALL 900 bn (EUR 7.3 bn, USD 8.7 bn). This estimation is essentially 7.1% lower than the nominal GBP, which was considered during preparation of the 2005 budget.

According to the budget draft the 2006 budget deficit is expected to fall to 4.1% from 4.6% in that of 2005.
