Yet another failed auction for Albanian electricity importation

Tirana, August 19 (AENews) – The Albanian Power Corporation, the electricity state monopoly, failed again recently in auction aimed at securing the importation of 780 m kWh, EUR 27 million.

The auction was an attempt at securing the necessary energy for the upcoming Sept.-Dec. electricity demand.

Four interested companies attended the auction; IGL from Switzerland, Montmontaza from Croatia, and a Turkish company, which did not make an offer.

Albania is now facing a blackout electricity crisis due to low power production levels, which are not enough to meet with demand. The situation is worsened by the fact that Albania has limited links with the regional power network.
