Election winners seeks to extend coalition for larger parliament majority

Tirana, July 15 (AENews) – Head of the opposition, Sali Berisha, announced today that his party intends to extend their soft majority in the parliament.

The party leader said they were trying to gain 84 PMs, which is necessary to approve changes in decentralizations, civil and penal codes, etc, in their efforts to open the way for deep reforms.
Those numbers also are necessary to elect the president in 2007, otherwise in two years Albanians will have to can go another time to the polls.

Democratic Party and their current allies won on 73 seats out of 140 seats in the Albanian unicameral parliament.

Now Berisha is seeking to bring in other parties. These are parties which previously were associated with the left wing government led by the Socialist Party who has ruled Albania in past eight years.

Expectations are for the Union for Human Rights Party to join the new government coalition, which in Albania represent ethnic minority, mainly small Greek community. This party controls two seats in new parliament and their participation in the government will effect further relations with the Greek Government.
