According to the report, some university rectors, (mainly opposition candidates), are pressuring the students, meanwhile the public administration is also facing pressures.
The report also highlights the danger of printing the ballots for the first time using a publishing house in the country, at the same time asking for careful monitoring and transparency in this process.
Highly criticized by the report is also the way the results may be distorted as a result of the proportional system. In Albania 100 candidates are elected directly, while 40 are chosen through the proportional system.
The Socialist Party and Democratic Party are asking their supporters to give them their majority vote and to give their allies the proportional vote (each side has six allies), so as to maximize the number of possible parliamentary seats from the list of parties and coalitions.
Violent clashes have been recorded in several election zones. Meanwhile, Lulezim Basha, opposition spokesman declared “citizens will protect themselves in cases when the police gets on the side of government candidates”.
It is sad but true; in Albania’s history there have never been any elections after which the losing party has left power in a peaceful way.
