European Union calls again for free and fair elections in Albania

Tirana, June 22 (AENews) – “With Albania, the essential condition of making progress on an SAA (Stabilization and Association Agreement) is free and fair elections next month”.

Olli Rehn, responsible for enlargement of European Union has called again for free and fair elections in Albania in a speech in European Parliament, today.

Albanians will go to the ballot stations on July 3 while the European Union has placed the fate of Albania’s integration on the free and fair parliamentary elections.

The European Union has criticized the Albanian government for irregular elections four years ago in 2001, when the Socialist Party won the relevant majority of 140 seats in parliament.

The local officer of Observatory Mission of OSCE-Odhir, Jurgen Grunet said Monday that they had observed several incidents during the electoral campaigns. The Dutch Ambassador in Tirana has alleged that at least three candidates from both government and opposition parties have a criminal past, but none of the candidates was called off.
