Mjaft Movement reports on Gallup International opinion poll results

Tirana, June 1 (AENews) – Today in a press conference, Mjaft Movement presented a summary of the results of a much excepted opinion poll conducted by Gallup International.

The poll was conducted in as an initiative of Mjaft in an attempt to change the way politics are oriented in Albania where most political platforms reflect what politicians think is important, which does not always reflect the sensitivities of the public, the report said.

The opinion poll was conducted during the 15-21 May period by Gallup International. 1400 participants were chosen as a respective proportional number for the population of Albania, according to the Mjaft report. The opinion poll results are reported to have only a 2.6 % margin of error.

According to the poll when people were asked about the general trend in which the country has been going 38 % of the interviewees though things was going in a negative direction; 32 % said that the country had seen some positive changes; followed by 28 % who thought that the country had seen both some good and bad developments.

Unemployment at 58 % and corruption at 45 %, followed by low living standards, were the three major issues facing our society at the moment, poll results showed.

The economic situation was viewed not as very positive. 62 % thought that economic growth has been very slow in these last 12 months, while 43 % blamed the government and 11 % blamed politics in general as the two main factors responsible for the slow economic development of the country.

About the upcoming July 3 parliamentary elections, over 75 % of participants thought that these elections will be free and fair. 60 % considered the upcoming parliamentary elections as very important, while 30 % consider them important. Among these 65 % said that they would go out to vote, while only 17 % were undecided.

When asked which of the political parties they thought would win these elections, 39 % thought that the Democratic Party (DP) would win compared to 33 % who voted for the Socialist Party (SP) and 8 % for Integration Socialist Movement (LSI).

However, when asked which of the political parties they would vote for; the DP and SP had received the same results of 34 % in support, followed by 10 % for LSI, according to poll results.

These were only some of the results from the 160 document that Gallup International submitted to Mjaft last Friday, Mjaft representative said.
