Albanian politics sign a code of conduct for parliamentary elections
Tirana, April 27 (AENews) – Under a proposal by the Albanian President Alfred Moisiu, Albanian political leaders signed on April 26 an code of conduct to impellent during their electoral campaigns for the general elections due to be in July 3.
“Even though this code does not bind legally, nonetheless it represents an important moment”, – Albanian President Moisiu said during a press conference. “Now the political leaders need to collaborate more with each other to resolve the problems of our nation”, – he added.
The code of conduct requires of all parties to be transparent about their campaign funds and for them to accept election results. But the opposition says that they will accept election results only if they are free and fair.
In the past 15 years Albanians have voted five times to elect a new parliament, twice in a constitutional referendum and four times for local government. Only the 1992 elections were accepted by all sides as free and fair.
