Berisha Re-elected Leader of Albania’s Main Opposition Party
Uncategorized Sunday, April 24th, 2005TIRANA, April 24 (AENews) – Democratic Party (DP) leader, Sali Berisha was re-elected as leader of the major opposition party during the party congress Sunday (24 April) evening.
Berisha, a former Albanian president, was the sole candidate for the position, with very few votes against.
Addressing delegates in congress, he said he expects a strong showing from DP in the parliamentary elections this summer. He plans to become prime minister in the case of an outright DP victory. Berisha is the first and the last leader in DP-s history. Founded in 1991 as the first opposition party in post communist era, Democratic Party had never known another leader.
